West Brom midfielder Craig Gardner scored against his former side Aston Villa, with the Baggies earning a narrow win in the Midlands derby, reports BBC
Aston Villa were reduced to 10 men early into the game when Kieran Richardson was given a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on West Brom attacking midfielder Stephane Sessegnon. It left the visitors a man short for over 70 minutes of the game, and they created little chances after being a man light.
It was Albion who had the better of the chances in the first-half, and made it count after the break. Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan made a mess of a cross into the box, which caused mayhem in the penalty area, and pinball football led to Craig Gardner volleying a low effort in from close range.
