West Ham vs Leicester – Premier League preview and team news

Leicester City will be hoping to begin the festive period on a positive note as they come up against West Ham United in a tricky game at Upton Park.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce was content with a point from the last game at Sunderland, despite the goal they conceded having come from a highly debatable penalty. The result kept them in the top four, and their prospects for the season are showing no signs of plummeting.

For all the goals that Diafra Sakho has scored and the solid performances in midfield from Alexandre Song, West Ham’s star player this season has arguably been Stewart Downing, who netted on Wearside and is continuing to thrive in a central role.

There was again no shortage of effort from Leicester as they lost to the champions Manchester City, but the match ended in yet another defeat which leaves them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League on only 10 points.

Nigel Pearson is under pressure to get results quickly, but he must do something to address the lack of goals and the defensive frailties if the Foxes are to end a drought of three months without winning a competitive fixture.

The home side have doubts over captain Mark Noble, but otherwise have a fully-fit and available squad to choose from.

Ben Hamer will continue to deputise in goal for Leicester in place of the injured Kasper Schmeichel, while Matthew Upson remains absent with a foot problem.
