Arsenal have been dealt a blow by Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti who has insisted midfielder Asier Illarramendi will not be leaving the club, the Daily
The 24-year-old playmaker has not enjoyed much first team football since his £24m move from Real Sociedad to Madrid and a number of top European clubs are said to be eying up a potential move.
Reports claim Arsenal have laid an offer on the table for the Spaniard but Ancelotti has been quick to dismiss all speculation of the midfielder leaving the club in the near future.
The Italian boss claimed Illarramendi is an integral part of his squad in the face of reports Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva is soon on his way to the club.
He said: “He is a player of Real Madrid and though it’s true he hasn’t played much, we still have confidence in him.
“He’s important in the locker room.”
The player himself stated his happiness in the Spanish capital and was only focussed on the next game, also claiming he knew nothing of a deal for Lucas Silva and that it would not affect his position in the squad.
The move for Silva will be a small blow to Arsenal in itself as they were one of a number of Premier League teams linked with luring him to England.
