Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista has revealed Arsenal have been in contact over a move to the Premier League in the January transfer window, ESPN
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has hinted he would like to sign re-enforcements to bolster his squad for the rest of the season and speaking after his side beat Athletic Bilbao at El Madrigal, Gabriel confirmed the interest of the London club but didn’t say if he would be completing the move.
“Whether I go to Arsenal or I stay at Villarreal, I won’t lose my head,” the Brazilian insisted. “I’m very calm. My head is at Villarreal and I’m very focused. My agent is working on making sure I continue being calm.”
It’s been suggested that Joel Campbell could move to the Yellow Submarine on loan for the rest of the season in a deal that would pave the way for Gabriel to go to the Emirates Stadium, although the 24-year-old would require a work permit. Gabriel has been at Villarreal since a 2013 move from Brazilian outfit Vitoria.
Villarreal, coached by Marcelino, are currently sixth in La Liga, four points behind Sevilla, who hold the final Champions League qualification place. Villarreal haven’t lost in the league since early November.
