Arsenal have received a major boost in their attempts to sign Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin after rivals Tottenham decided to pursue a different target, according to the Metro.
The club has long been in the market for a more defensively minded midfield player, with a number of names from across Europe having been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, including Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.
Tottenham, managed by Schneiderlin’s former boss Mauricio Pochettino, have also been serious contenders in the race to sign the 25-year-old, but they have now chosen to turn their attentions towards a bid for Everton star James McCarthy.
The Irishman, who has impressed throughout his time in English football, joined Everton from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2013 and is a regular fixture in the Toffees midfield. It is likely to take an offer in the region of £25m in order to make them consider selling McCarthy.
