Arsenal’s hopes of signing Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva appear to be over amid reports Real Madrid are to wrap up the 21-year-old’s transfer, according to the
Reports from the Spanish Press cite comments from the vice-president of Silva’s current club Cruzeiro as saying a deal will be completed between the clubs, which would leave Gunners manager Arsene Wenger facing the prospect of missing out.
Silva, who will in February turn 22, has represented his country at Under-20 and Under-21 level and played almost 100 times for his club. Should his move to the Santiago Bernabeu be completed he would be Madrid’s second signing of the transfer window, the Champions League winners having earlier announced the arrival of Norwegian starlet Martin Odegaard.
Wenger has been able to add young Polish midfielder Krystian Bielik to his squad, while Germany international Lukas Podolski was allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium for Italian giants Inter on a season-long loan.
Silva had previously revealed he was a fan of two La Liga clubs – Madrid and their clasico rivals Barcelona.
