Liverpool strikers Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert both got on the scoresheet as the Reds saw past Aston Villa this afternoon, reports BBC
The visitors took the lead in the 24th minute through Fabio Borini. While not the Liverpool first-choice in attack, he made the most of a rare Premier League start, but converting a Jordan Henderson cross.
Aston Villa somewhat came back into the game, with Christian Benteke coming close.
But Liverpool dominance started to tell in the first-half, and Brendan Rodgers’ men came close to doubling their lead through Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling, but the duo failed to make the most of their respective opportunities.
Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan saved a Martin Skrtel header against the post too.
The hosts did pick up in the second-half following the introduction of Carlos Gil, however, with Benteke and Nathan Baker coming close.
But Rickie Lambert scored with just over 10 minutes of normal time remaining to settle the tie.
