Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert denies personal vendetta against axed Darren Bent

After Aston Villa striker Darren Bent questioned whether manager Paul Lambert had a personal problem with him following his exile from the club, the Scot has responded insisting that wasn’t the case, reports Sky Sports.

Bent, 30, has found himself out of the Aston Villa first-team ever since Paul Lambert was appointed manager in 2012, and has been loaned out to the likes of Fulham, Brighton and Derby in recent months. But he felt Lambert treated him unfairly during his time at the club, something his boss continues to deny.

“Darren has got to be honest with himself. The only clubs that came in for him were Championship clubs. He went to Brighton for a month and they never wanted to renew it. He’s gone to Derby and never started a game. At Fulham, he never played a lot of games towards the tail end. Was it personal with me when he was at Fulham?” said Lambert.
