Chelsea mulling over Micah Richards move

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is said to be mulling over a surprise move for Manchster City defender Micah Richards, the Guardian is reporting.

The City defender is currently on a season long loan deal with Italian side Fiorentina in a bid to overcome injuries and have a sustained period of first team football.

The former England international has already turned down two contract extension offers by City and his current deal is set to expire in the summer.

This means the 26-year-old is now allowed to enter talks with potential suitors from this month on – and Mourinho is said to be considering a move.

The Portuguese reportedly tried to sign him for the Blue sin his previous spell as manager and again while he was in charge of Champions League holders Real Madrid, and could make a move to bolster his defence.

Chelsea currently have Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta as right back options but with the later also providing competition and cover for left back against Filipe Luis, and extra body would go a long way for Mourinho.

Former manager Roberto Mancini, who is now at Inter Milan, is also said to be keen having made him first choice right back during his title winning season, while Liverpool could be tempted to make a move with Glen Johnson’s contract up in the summer.

Richards remains the holder of the youngest defender to represent England.
