Andre Schurrle is expected to be absent from Chelsea’s squad that face Liverpool in the Capital One Cup semi-final on Tuesday as a move to German side Wolfsburg edges nearer, the Telegraph
Schurrle also missed the FA Cup defeat to Bradford at the weekend and the official line out of the Blues camp is the German is suffering from a persistent back injury.
This is most likely to be the cause given for his absence once again but Wolfsburg are circling and officials are thought to have travelled to London to sound out a possible deal for the forward before the close of the transfer window.
Officials are also said to have met with the player’s father and Schurrle is in favour of a move having slipped increasingly down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues want £25m for the Germany international but Wolfsburg could be unable to stump up that kind of money during the winter window – they would prefer a loan move for the rest of the season before a guaranteed switch during the summer.
However Chelsea will want the fee upfront as they will need to replace Schurrle in their squad and will have to spend the majority if not all of the fee.
They have been quoted £30m to sign Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker Douglas costa while Juan Cuadrado has a release clause of £26.8m which Fiorentina will not budge from.
