Borussia Dortmund are thought to be willing to let German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan leave for Manchester United this winter instead of losing him for free next summer, the Daily
The playmaker has made no secret that he would like to play in the Premier League and Louis van Gaal has identified him as the man to bolster his midfield options.
However he will face reported competition from a host of league rivals in light of the developments that see Dortmund now willing to do business for the 24-year-old.
Gundogan had been out with injury for 14 months before returning this season and is reportedly grateful to his club for their support despite wanting a move to England – with it increasingly unlikely he will extend his current deal beyond 2016 when it ends.
This means the Germans are moving to sell the midfielder while they can command a larger fee for his services before his price tag seriously dwindles next season.
A £16m bid looks to be enough to land the German star but it will be a test of time whether or not Van Gaal deems his transfer as a priority over other targets in this window – and could wait to make a move come the summer.
