Everton striker Samuel Eto’o has arrived in Italy in order to undergo a medical with Sampdoria ahead of a proposed move back to Serie A, Sky
The 33-year-old is expected to sign a two and-a-half year contract worth £1m per year, while it also includes the option of becoming a club director once that deal runs out in the summer of 2017.
He has spent just five months at Everton, whom he joined in late August 2014 following his release by Chelsea at the end of last season. At Goodison Park, Eto’o has found himself in and out of the starting XI, and overall he has made 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals.
Sampdoria sporting director Carlo Osti said on Wednesday that a deal was close and that Eto’o was ‘keen’ to join the club, although Everton have reportedly still not allowed the former Inter star to leave. New York Cosmos are also said to have shown an interest.
During his career, Eto’o has won the Champions League on three occasions, as well as league titles in Italy and Spain with Inter and Barcelona respectively.
