Manchester United have completed the signing of former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes on an 18-month contract, BBC
Previously linked with a move to rivals Liverpool, Valdes has been training with the Red Devils in recent months to aid his recovery from a serious knee injury. He left Barcelona at the end of last season after helping to win six La Liga titles and three Champions League titles among other honours.
He will now provide competition for first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea, while it could see current No. 2 Anders Lindegaard leave the club having found first-team opportunities few and far between in the past two years.
This signing has led to question marks over the future of De Gea, whose contract expires at the end of next season, but Man Utd officials are relaxed over the current situation. He is expected to retain his place as first-choice, but Valdes is expected to be named in the club’s match day squad for the first time in Sunday’s game at home to Southampton.
