Gunners handed boost with Paulista omitted from Villarreal squad

Villarreal have left defender Gabriel Paulista out of their weekend squad to face Levante, handing Arsenal a huge boost in their move to sign the Brazilian, the Daily Mail is reporting.

The Spanish side announced their 18 man squad in preparation for this weekend’s La Liga clash with a list included of players who will miss out through suspension or injury.

However Paulista was complete omitted from both sets of names to fuel speculation his move to the Emirates Stadium is moving ever closer.

While any move is subject to the Gunners receiving a work permit for the £15m rated defender – something which has been widely reported to face difficulty – talks have been ongoing between the clubs.

Should Paulista fail to gain the permit it is understood by the newspaper that Arsenal will strongly appeal any decision to not award the player the necessary clearance.

The defender has been with Villarreal for two season now, making 49 appearances in the process.

He has formed part of an impressive defence that has seen the Spanish side remain unbeaten since November.
