Southampton forward Shane Long scored the only goal of the game, as the Premier League side booked their place in the FA Cup fourth round at Ipswich Town’s expense, reports BBC
The former West Brom and Hull City man scored inside of twenty minutes with typically ruthless finishing, and the Saints played out a cagey affair against the Tractor Boys, somehow keeping the Championship high-flyers at bay.
Ipswich thought they had taken the lead prior to Long’s goal, with Stephen Hunt scoring, but his effort was ruled out for offside, and the injury-hit side were left to rue the chance. The Saints made the most of their first real opportunity in the game, and they saw the game out for a 1-0 victory.
Ronald Koeman’s side will now face Crystal Palace in the fourth round.
