Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign Toronto FC and former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe in January, the Telegraph
Having only moved to the MLS this just under a year ago, Defoe is said to be desperate to play in the Premier League once again with Queens Park Rangers and Hull City reportedly interested amongst others.
Liverpool have had big problems in front of goal this season since the departure of £75m man Luis Suarez – with fellow star of last season Daniel Sturridge having not played since August.
Mario Balotelli, not even on the substitute bench on New Year’s Day, has been a flop since his £16m arrival while Brendan Rodgers has rarely used Rickie Lambert or Fabio Borini.
He is currently employing Raheem Sterling as a centre forward but this is only a temporary fix for their problems.
Toronto are said to be pushing for a permanent deal but a temporary switch to Anfield is not beyond the realms of possibility with targets in January hard to come by.
Saido Berahino of West Brom has seriously been considered but the club are demanding £20m for the 21-year-old, while Wilfired Bony – also a Manchester City target – is valued at £30m by his club Swansea.
