Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is considering a bid for young Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom, who is out of contract in the summer, according to the Daily
The Gunners are keen to extend the 19-year-old’s stay in North London until the summer of 2019, but talks have stalled, allowing Liverpool to develop an interest along with Premier League rivals Everton, Manchester City and Tottenham as well as other clubs from around Europe.
Akpom has come through the Arsenal youth academy and is known for searing pace, impressing regularly for the club’s U-21 side. He has been around the first-team setup this season as well, however, and came off the bench in Sunday’s 3-2 success over Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup.
Last season the England U-20 international spent time on loan in League One with Brentford and Coventry City. It now appears that Rodgers feels he can nurture Akpom into becoming a key member of the Liverpool first-team, having done similar work with Raheem Sterling in recent seasons.
