Liverpool target Barcelona’s Ter Stegen as Mignolet doubts persist

With Simon Mignolet’s position as Liverpool’s number one still in the balance, the club are said to be targeting Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen according to the Daily Star.

Having been dropped ‘indefinitely’ Belgian stopper Mignolet was recalled to the first team picture after number two Brad Jones suffered injury – although he is not deemed to be a solution to their goalkeeping position.

The 26-year-old has endured a poor first half of the season that has seen him criticised heavily by a number of pundits for shaky goalkeeping and a string of errors that cost his side points.

Liverpool has been linked with a move for former Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes before the Spaniard opted to join Manchester United, and now Rodgers has turned his attentions to Ter Stegen.

The 22-year-old German has cut a frustrated figure at the Nou Camp since his summer switch – being used primarily in cup competitions by manager Luis Enrique with Claudio Bravo his preferred number one.

He has expressed his frustrations at his lack of league game time and Liverpool believe they can seize the opportunity to bring the £17m rated player in either on loan or permanently.
