Liverpool’s Enrique emerges as Palace loan target

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has emerged as a loan target for new Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew as he bids to offer the left back first team football, according to the Telegraph.

Enrique has been a peripheral figure at Anfield this season having come back from a lengthy spell on the side lines – last starting for the Reds back in October during their 3-2 away at Queens Park Rangers.

In fact, the 28-year-old Spaniard has only played 16 times in two season and now finds himself behind new arrivals Alberto Moreno and Javier Manquillo in the pecking order, along with Glen Johnson and Jon Flannigan when fit.

However playing time could increase for the out of favour left back as Liverpool come into the beginning of a congested fixture list that sees them play two legged clashes in the Europa League and Capital One Cup semi-finals in addition to an FA Cup Fourth Round tie in between their league games.

Palace have identified the left back position as one that needs to be strengthened as they bid to stave of relegation – with Enrique their number one target.

It remains to be seen whether or not Brendan Rodgers would be willing to sanction any loan move with so many games coming up.

Enrique cost Liverpool £5m in 2011 having impressed for Pardew’s former club Newcastle.
