Man City set to offload Nastasic

Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic is looking to leave the Premier League champions, with German club Schalke 04 leading the chase, Sky Sports is reporting.

The Serb has already been told by manager Manuel Pellegrini that he is free to leave City, having rarely featured during the Chilean’s tenure as the result of persistent injury problems and falling down the pecking order behind the likes of Vincent Kompany, Martin Demichelis and Eliaquim Mangala.

He moved to the Etihad Stadium for £16m from Fiorentina in the summer 2012, while Roberto Mancini was manager. Since then he has made 51 appearances without scoring, but played little part in City’s Premier League and Capital One Cup triumphs last season. So far this time around, his only outing has come in the 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.

Any January move would either be a loan deal or a permanent transfer, with Schalke boss Roberto Di Matteo claiming that his side are close to signing Nastasic, although Milan are also said to hold an interest.
