Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria has offered his backing to the club’s ‘new’ style under manager Louis van Gaal, ESPN
The club currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League, with the target for this season to qualify for the Champions League, something which they missed out on last time around due to a disappointing finish of seventh place. They had recently been on an 11-match unbeaten run in all competitions, but that came to an end against Southampton on Sunday.
So far after 21 Premier League games under van Gaal, he has picked up the same number of points that predecessor David Moyes had at the same stage last season, but Di Maria insists that the Red Devils have made big strides. “From the start of the season to now, you can see that we’ve grown,” he said. “We weren’t so great at the beginning but we’ve started getting a few victories under our belts.
“There are some people saying that we’re not playing in a particularly good style or that it’s not the old Manchester United – but it’s not. We’re beginning something new here. We’ve got a new style, we’ve got a new manager and we’re all working hard to make sure we’re putting Manchester United back where it belongs.”
Di Maria became Man Utd’s record signing last summer, joining from Real Madrid for some £59.7m, and he has gone on to score four goals in 14 appearances.
