With Manchester United having recently signed former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, manager Louis Van Gaal insists the Spanish international will be No.2 to first-choice David De Dea, reports BBC
The 32-year-old had been training with Manchester United for a small period before being offered an 18-month contract, and there is the option of another year too. Valdes had been recovering from a knee injury after leaving Barcelona, and acknowledged himself that David De Gea was his superior.
His manager confirmed that Valdes was not brought in to displace his fellow native, but to provide cover for him. His arrival will likely see previous No.2 Anders Lindegaard sold this month.
“(Valdes) joins the club as the number two goalkeeper and is a great addition to the first team,” said Van Gaal.
