Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal says Wayne Rooney is no longer guaranteed a place

Despite Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal recently suggesting forward Wayne Rooney would “always play” under him, the Dutch coach has somewhat changed his tune, reports ESPN.

Wayne Rooney has been in fine form for the Red Devils under the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager, and has flourished since being made captain. But the experienced coach recently revealed that Rooney may not always have a place in the team in his long-term vision.

“I don’t know if I shall use him always because it’s also dependable of the form of the strikers and the balance of the team. I can use him on different positions. I like multi-functional players. I have had the time to know all my players. I want to work with young people,” said Van Gaal.
