Newcastle caretaker manager John Carver says he wants to be permanent head coach

With former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew having officially departed to join Crystal Palace, caretaker boss John Carver wants the job on a fulltime basis, reports BBC Sport.

Newcastle lost their first game post-Pardew, with Leicester City knocking them out of the FA Cup to a 1-0 scoreline. And despite the defeat, caretaker manager John Carver has publicly admitted he wants to replace the 53-year-old.

“I’m going to throw my hat into the ring. I told the players but I couldn’t make it public – now I am. Alan has gone now, it’s been announced. At the time when all that was going on it’s difficult to say how you feel. But obviously deep down inside I want to be head coach of this football club,” said Carver.
