Newcastle striker Cisse offered lucrative move to Shanghai

Cash-rich Chinese club Shanghai SIPG have offered Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisee the chance to join them abd become one of the world’s highest paid players, according to the Independent.

Shanghai are managed by former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson, who was appointed back in November. They have put together a three-year package for Cisse – who is currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal – which would see him earn in the region of £22.5m per year.

The 29-year-old has 18 months remaining on his current contract, and has been considerably linked with a move to Swansea City as a replacement for the recently departed Wilfried Bony. Newcastle are extremely keen not to lose him on a free, and so will accept an offer in the region of £8m.

In nearly three years at St. James’ Park, Cisse has scored 32 goals in 87 Premier League appearances, but could now follow in the footsteps of Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba, who have also spent part of their careers in China.
