Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa set to sign for OGC Nice

Newcastle winger Hatem Ben Arfa is set to sign for French Ligue One strugglers OGC Nice, reports BBC Sport.

“Some details remain to be ironed out but Ben Arfa has never been so close to OGC Nice. The attacking midfielder should continue his career in the red and black shirt (of Nice),” said Nice’s official statement.

Ben Arfa, 27, was originally on a season-long loan with Hull City, but saw the deal terminate early by manager Steve Bruce. Newcastle revealed that the French international had no future at St James’ Park.

His contract with the Magpies is also up in the summer, so they have been willing to let the troublesome winger go for very little. Ben Afra can look to kick start his career again in his native France where he originally made his name, while Newcastle will enjoy being finally rid of him.
