Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo has told Manchester United that their hopes of re-signing teammate Paul Pogba are misguided, reports the Manchester
Sir Alex Ferguson allowed the Frenchman to leave Old Trafford in 2012 after never making an impact upon the first-team, making just seven substitute appearances in his final season with the club.
However, since then he has emerged as one of the top midfielders in the European game, helping Juventus to successive Serie A titles and winning the award for the best young player at the 2014 World Cup, where he starred as France reached the quarter-finals before losing to eventual winners Germany.
Man Utd have been heavily linked with making a bid to re-sign Pogba, with former boss David Moyes having admitted that he would have attempted to strike a deal had he not lost his job last April. But Pirlo thinks that Pogba will never return.
“For whatever reasons they chose not to give him a chance – and that is a mistake they will have to live with now,” he said. “I can’t see that he (Pogba) will ever return to Manchester United.”
