Queens Park Rangers are aiming to take their unbeaten home run to seven games as they welcome Swansea City to Loftus Road on Thursday.
Harry Redknapp’s men have had a mixed festive period thus far, and will be disappointed at having failed to win against a direct rival in Crystal Palace on Sunday, as they were forced to settle for a goalless draw which does at least keep them two points above the bottom three.
But as a result, this match becomes even more important given the R’s’ woeful away record, and again the onus will be on Charlie Austin to deliver the goods as he has so often this season, ably supported by the energetic Eduardo Vargas.
Despite coming into it off the back of two straight wins, Swansea turned in their worst performance of the season at Liverpool last time out, making far too many defensive errors and failing to cope with the Reds’ high pressing game throughout.
So they will be happy to be facing QPR, who they played off the park at the beginning of December and have scored 11 goals against in their last three Premier League meetings. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top between Austin and the Welsh club’s leading marksman Wilfried Bony.
This match comes too soon for QPR midfielder Sandro, while Alejandro Faurlin and Yun Suk-Young also remain out.
For Swansea, Bony and midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng make their final appearances before going away on international duty. Jefferson Montero is injured, and Jonjo Shelvey begins a four-match ban.
