Roma sign Newcastle United defender Yanga-Mbiwa on permanent deal

Serie A side AS Roma have signed Newcastle defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa for £5.5M following his loan spell with the Italian outfit, reports Sky Sports.

The 25-year-old joined Roma on loan from Newcastle in September, after struggling to make a real impact in the Premier League. He has impressed enough during his time in Italy to earn a permanent deal, with Roma currently chasing the title.

He played 20 games for Roma, which automatically meant, as per the contract, that Mbiwa would join on a permanent basis as a result. The French international had initially joined the Magpies from Montpellier in 2013, but made just 11 league starts before being moved on.

Tipped for a bright career, his best form seems to be coming in the Italian Serie A, and could well turn out to be a bargain.
