Schurrle future in doubt as Chelsea line up Reus bid

Chelsea may look to sell winger Andre Schurrle during the January transfer window, and are lining up Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus as a possible replacement, according to the Daily Express.

Despite playing an important role in helping Germany to win the World Cup last summer, Schurrle has struggled for first-team opportunities this season and has been substituted at half-time on four occasions, and speculation over his future has been ongoing for several months.

Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian are currently the three players preferred by manager Jose Mourinho to play just in behind the lone striker, but the 24-year-old has often reiterated his desire to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place.

Despite that, it appears that his days at Stamford Bridge could be numbered as Chelsea look to meet Reus’ £20m release clause. Real Madrid are the favourites to sign the playmaker at present, but Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United are keeping an eye on his situation.

United target Juan Cuadrado is another player that Chelsea have looked to as a possible alternative, with the Fiorentina winger attracting widespread interest from across Europe. Mourinho is keen to bring in a right-sided attacking midfielder.
