Southampton 2-0 Arsenal: Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny twice at fault as the Saints see past the Gunners

Defensive errors and poor judgement from Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny saw Southampton win 2-0 against Arsene Wenger’s side at St Mary’s, reports BBC Sport.

Sadio Mane put the home side home after half an hour, curling home from a tight angle, after Szczesny came off his line, but ultimately failed to quell the danger. No defender got on the goalline fast enough, and Arsenal were left red faced.

The Arsenal shot-stopper was at fault again in the second-half. He lost possession to Southampton’s Dusan Tadic, who capitalised and doubled the host’s lead.

The results sees Southampton now two points clear of 5th-place, and only one point behind 3rd-place. Arsenal fall to 6th, and their problems in away games continue, with four defeats and one draw from eight games on the road.
