After joining Southampton on loan, winger Eljero Elia is hoping to take his chance in the Premier League with both hands this season, reports BBC
The 27-year-old, who currently plays for German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, has joined the Saints on loan until the end of the campaign, and admitted he was surprised manager Ronald Koeman came in for him.
Elia has had disciplinary problems in the past, but with his new manager’s backing he’s now determined to make the most of his opportunity in England to earn a permanent deal in the summer.
“I want people to talk positively about me and not negatively. This is a very big chance for me. I will grab it with both hands and do everything to stay at Southampton at the end of the season. Hopefully it goes well and they take the option in my contract. That’s my dream,” he said.
