Southampton’s Eljero Elia grateful to manager Ronald Koeman for giving him a chance in the Premier League

Southampton winger Eljero Elia bagged a brace to beat Newcastle on the weekend, and thanked manager Ronald Koeman for chancing on him, reports Sky Sports.

The Werder Bremen man joined Southampton on loan this month, with reports suggesting he was a hard player to manage. But Elia has made a bright start to life with the high-flying Saints, and he was keen to praise manager Ronald Koeman for bringing him to the Premier League.

“The manager gave me the chance to play for Southampton. He was the only one who believed in me and everybody around was looking at what was going to happen. I want to have success, it’s up to me. I want to show everyone what I can do. (Koeman) gives you trust, he wants you to have success and you go and fight for him, and you fight for the club, you fight for your team-mates,” said Elia.
