Manchester City are said to be contemplating a move for Liverpool and Tottenham target Jay Rodriguez – despite finalising the sale of Wilfried Bony – the Daily
Rodriguez was in fine form before his incredibly unfortunate injury ruled him out of the World Cup last summer having ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament at the Etihad Stadium back in April.
While Southampton had hoped the one capped England international would return to action last month a delay in his recovery has meant the player will start training again shortly and take part in U21 matches.
Liverpool and former boss Mauricio Pochettino, now in charge of Spurs, have been keeping close tabs on the 25-year-old as he works his way back to fitness and could make their moves towards the end of January or in the summer.
However City have emerged as surprise contenders for his signature and could make a £20m bid for the forward – despite the signing of Bony and the return to fitness of Stevan Jovetic, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko.
It is thought the player would not take any decision on potential moves until he has got himself fit and playing again while his club are adamant he will not be sold and have prepared a generous offer in a bid to persuade him to stay.
The mooted £20m fee may force the Saints to change their minds however.
