Toronto striker Jermain Defoe is holding talks with Sunderland over a potential deal that could see Jozy Altidore going the other way, reports BBC
The 32-year-old is currently training with his former side Tottenham while the MLS is in its close season, and has been attracting a host of Premier League clubs in the process. Defoe, an England international, scored 11 goals in 16 league games for Toronto, but is expected to be leaving on a permanent basis this summer.
Sunderland have shown genuine interest, but Queens Park Rangers certainly have the resources to lure Defoe back to London where he’s lived for the, majority of his playing career. There’s no announcement to be made on his future yet, but Sunderland have made their intent very clear this month.
