Swansea agree fee for Tottenham defender Naughton

Swansea City have agreed a £5m fee with Premier League rivals Tottenham over the transfer of full-back Kyle Naughton, the Guardian.

The deal is not far away from completion, with personal terms close to being agreed with Naughton, who has struggled to establish himself as a regular under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The 26-year-old now appears set to be the first to leave White Hart Lane as part of a clear-out from the Argentine, with long-serving winger Aaron Lennon also among those who are surplus to requirements.

He joined Tottenham from Sheffield United along with Kyle Walker in the summer of 2009, but has never had an extended run in the starting XI and has had loan spells with Leicester City and Norwich City. This season, he has played just 326 minutes of Premier League football.

Should the deal go through, Naughton would become the second player to join Swansea in January after on-loan striker Nelson Oliveira, and will provide competition for existing full-backs Angel Rangel, Neil Taylor and Dwight Tiendalli. The Welsh club are also showing interest in Norwich left-back Martin Olsson.
