Tottenham winger Andros Townsend scored a second-half penalty to give the Premier League side a lead going into their second leg of the Capital One Cup semi-finals against Sheffield United, reports BBC
Sheffield United looked to make life difficult for their Premier League opponents at White Hart Lane, and restricted them to just two shots on target in the 90 minutes. The Blades created little themselves, but were looking to come out of the first leg level, so a win at home would put them through.
Emmanuel Adebayor, who was made captain for Spurs, had chances, as did Andros Townsend and Eric Dier. But midway through the second-half, Sheffield United’s resistance was finally broken. Jay McEveley gave away a penalty for handball, and Townsend put away the spot-kick to give Tottenham the advantage.
