Tottenham 2-1 Sunderland: Eriksen scores late on to seal all three points for Spurs

Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen popped up in the dying minutes against Sunderland to snatch all three points for the top-four chasing Londoners, reports BBC Sport.

Spurs took the lead minutes into the game through defender Jan Vertonghen. The Belgian centre-back scored from a deflected effort to put the Londoners in the lead.

Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson equalised from a free-kick, given for a foul on new-boy Jermain Defoe – who faced his former club at White Hart Lane. An expert from set pieces, Larsson placed his effort above the wall and into the back of the net to give the Black Cats a lifeline.

Both sides exchanged chances after the break, but it was Tottenham who struck late and made it count. Christian Eriksen steered an Andros Townsend pass that went in via the post to earn Mauricio Pochettino’s side the win.
