West Brom target move for Man Utd’s Fletcher

West Bromwich Albion have made an enquiry to Manchester United over the possibility of signing midfielder Darren Fletcher, according to the Manchester Evening News.

New manager Tony Pulis believes that the Scot could play a key role in the club’s attempts to steer themselves clear of danger in the final months of the season. He reportedly wanted to sign Fletcher while in charge at Crystal Palace, but the deal did not materialise and that is thought to be among the factors that led to his resignation in August.

Fletcher has struggled to establish himself as a regular in the Man Utd first-team this season, making only five Premier League starts and coming off the bench on seven occasions. Until December he was vice-captain, but manager Louis van Gaal decided to replace him with Michael Carrick, one of the players currently ahead in the pecking order.

A formal offer has not yet been made by West Brom, who currently lie two points above the bottom three in 14th place, but should they manage to lure Fletcher to the Hawthorns, he would become Pulis’ first signing since taking over at the end of December.
