West Brom’s Saido Berahino says he didn’t celebrate out of respect

A lot has been made about Saido Berahino’s muted emotions in West Brom fixture against Gateshead in the FA Cup third round, but the young striker has said he was being “professional”, reports BBC Sport.

With the January transfer window open, speculation is rising about Berahino’s future with West Bromwich Albion, with Liverpool reported to being weighing up making a £20M+ bid for the England U21 international, which has led to Berahino perhaps feeling unsettled. But the 21-year-old played down such talk.

“I was just handling business and acting professionally and that’s it. There’s no need for me to explain myself on not celebrating goals. I just have to do what I do on the pitch. Newspapers have said bad things about me so I’m not really fussed what they have to say about where I’m going or what will happen. I just ignore it all,” he said.
