West Ham 2-2 Everton: Hammers win on penalties in enthralling FA Cup third round tie

West Ham beat Everton on penalties, with the two Premier League sides playing out an end-to-end spectacle that went the distance at Upton Park on Tuesday night, reports BBC Sport.

After a goalless and somewhat even first-half, West Ham took the lead in the 51st minute through striker Enner Valencia.

Things went from bad to worse when the Toffees went down to 10-men, following two bookable offences by Everton’s Aiden McGeady.

West Ham looked to have done enough to earn an impressive away win, before Everton’s Kevin Mirallas scored from a free-kick late on to send the game into extra time.

Everton then took a surprise lead through Romelu Lukaku, but his goal was cancelled out by West Ham’s Carlton Cole.

A penalty shootout ensued, and it was West Ham goalkeeper Adrian who slotted his effort home to win it for the Londoners.
