West Ham enter race to sign Fletcher

West Ham United have entered the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher, who appears likely to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, writes Sky Sports.

The Scotland international has only six months remaining on his current contract and has struggled for game time in recent months under Louis van Gaal, making only six starts this season in all competitions. In December, he was stripped of the vice-captaincy in favour of Michael Carrick, a more regular starter.

As a result, Fletcher is becoming highly sought after, with West Bromwich Albion also interested only to see their attempts to sign him on loan for the rest of the season dismissed by Man Utd.

Sam Allardyce is believed to want Fletcher to add more top-level experience in his midfield at Upton Park, as there is uncertainty over whether they can sign loanee Alexandre Song on a permanent basis. The 30-year-old Fletcher has spent his entire career with Man Utd, helping them to win six Premier League titles and the Champions League, making 223 appearances.
