West Ham have said Diafra Sakho’s injury that is ruling him out of the Africa Cup of Nations for Senegal has not been fabricated, reports Sky
The Senegal Football Federation criticised West Ham for a “lack of respect” after withdrawing Sakho from international duty at the last minute. But West Ham believe they have grounds to the decision as the striker cannot fly with the national team for the tournament.
“We’ve been in constant contact with the Senegal federation. He’s going to miss the Africa Cup of Nations, and we’re going to miss him because he’s injured. We’ve kept in constant contact and asked (the SFF) to assess him. We’re not trying to stop anyone from going to represent their country,” said West Ham’s assistant manager Neil McDonald.
