Arsenal and Liverpool given Mkhitaryan boost

Arsenal and Liverpool have been given a major boost in their attempts to sign attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who wants to leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, Talksport has reported.

The 26-year-old has been at the Signal Iduna Stadion since the summer of 2013, when he joined from Shakhtar Donetsk. He has gone on to score 15 goals in 67 appearances in all competitions, but Dortmund find themselves rock-bottom of the Bundesliga.

As a result, the player’s agent has revealed his desire to leave despite having a contract until the end of the 2016-17 season. “Henrikh wants to leave Dortmund at the end of the season,” said Mino Raiola. “We will have to wait and see what we can do.”

Liverpool were very much in the race to sign Mkhitaryan before he moved to Germany, and Brendan Rodgers is still thought to hold an interest should he become available. Meanwhile, Arsenal have emerged as strong contenders in recent months despite possessing a number of attacking midfielders.

Dortmund are unlikely to want to sell the Armenian, whose teammate Marco Reus is also in-demand as Jurgen Klopp’s side battle to avoid an unlikely relegation.
