Arsenal vice-captain Per Mertesacker believes the Londoners will end the season strongly now they have signed cover at the back in the shape of Gabriel Paulista, reports Sky Sports.
Arsenal have suffered a lot of injuries in key areas this season, but now their backline has Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker at the heart of the defence, they look a much more impenetrable outfit.
Manager Arsene Wenger vowed to sign another central defender to ensure they had adequate cover should they lose either of the duo again, and Mertesacker believes having another strong option in the defence will mean they end the season strongly.
“We suffered a lot at times with injuries, but also with results. We wanted a very deep squad, and have an addition with a centre-back now. We look much better now,” he said.
Arsenal have kept three consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League, and next face fierce North London rivals Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Gabriel will be hoping to feature in some capacity before the season comes to a close.
