The diminutive playmaker has been in outstanding form recently and has been a real star since the injury to team mate Jack Wilshere saw him move into a more central position.
30-year-old Cazorla only has 18 months left on his current deal with Arsenal having joined the North London side back in 2012, and will be significantly cheaper in the summer as his contract ticks into its final year.
Atletico are currently without star midfielders Arda Turan and Koke and the affects have been well documented in Spain – a 2-0 loss to Celta Vigo at the weekend loosening their grip on their title defence and highlighting the need for greater depth.
And Balague believes Cazorla will be the perfect fit for last season’s Champions League finalists having already played in La Liga with Malaga before arriving in the Premier League.
He said: “He has 18 months left on his contract at Arsenal, and Atletico have contacted Cazorla’s entourage.
“Atletico are convinced that they can persuade the player to join them. Then they just have to pay the money.
“There will be one year left on his contract in the summer, and will be available for cheaper.”
Cazorla has made 130 appearances during his three years at the Emirates Stadium, scoring 26 goals – and picked up Arsenal’s player of the season award in his debut campaign for the Gunners.
