Chelsea’s Fabregas still struggling with hamstring injury

Cesc Fabregas faces further time on the sidelines as a result of the hamstring injury suffered in Chelsea’s Capital One Cup win over Liverpool, ESPN has reported.

The former Barcelona midfielder was hurt as the Blues beat the Reds 1-0 in the second leg of the semi-final, setting up a game against Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who dispatched League One Sheffield United in the other tie of the round.

Chelsea won the semi-final 2-1 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw at Anfield but Fabregas had to be withdrawn shortly after the start of the second half and replaced by Ramires. Fabregas then sat out Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City a few days later, a game that saw Chelsea maintain their five-point lead over City at the top of the league table.

It has now been suggested that Fabregas won’t be fit to return until Chelsea’s Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain on February 17. Chelsea travel to France for the first leg before hosting Laurent Blanc’s side a month later, on March 11.

Fabregas has featured 31 times for Chelsea this season, scoring four goals, after his summer move back to England following three years with Barca. Fabregas previously played more than 200 times for Arsenal after joining the Gunners while a teenager, leaving Barca.
