Fiorentina scored two goals in the second-half against Tottenham to send the Premier League side out of the Europa League, reports BBC
The first-half between the two clubs was goalless, clear-cut chances at a premium. Tottenham were forced to rest key names for a Capital One Cup final to come in a few days so they weren’t at their strongest. The Londoners had to score to go through, but they just couldn’t conjure a goal. Mauricio Pochettino’s men were guilty of an error-strewn showing over the 90 minutes, and individual mistakes from their backline led to both second half goals scored by Fiorentina.
The Italian Serie A side took the lead in the 54th minute through Mario Gomez, capitalising on a mistake from Federico Fazio. The German international collected a pass from Milan Badelj, and slid the ball under Spurs ‘keeper Hugo Lloris to put Fiorentina ahead.
Loanee winger Mohamed Salah doubled Fiorentina’s lead midway through the second-half. Jan Vertonghen was caught on the ball, and the Chelsea and Egyptian forward made the most of his opportunity to score from close range.
