According to Sky Sports, Mainz striker Shinji Okazaki could be on his way to the Premier League in the summer, with the Japanese international likely to snub interest from the German Bundesliga.
Okazaki, 28, was the subject of a bid from Premier League strugglers Leicester City last month, but their offer was turned down by Mainz. City were said to have made an £8M offer, and th striker himself admitted that joining the Premier League would be a “dream” in his career. But the deal is dead, and now he may have to wait until the summer.
But any move could well be stalled due to interest elsewhere. German Bundesliga outfit Schalke are said to be keen on the striker, with manager Roberto Di Matteo looking to build a side capable of maintaining top-four finishes and domestic and European runs in the future.
Therefore Okazaki has decisions to make about his future in the summer. He’s sure to get interest, but whether that will amount to another offer remains to be seen.
