Everton boss Roberto Martinez has stated new loan signing Aaron Lennon is ready for an exciting debut against Liverpool this weekend, the Daily Star is reporting.
Lennon joined the Toffees in a deadline day deal after first team opportunities grew rare under new Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino this season.
The 27-year-old is poised to make his debut for the club in the most important fixture of their season as Liverpool arrive at Goodison Park.
And Martinez has backed the England international to hit the ground running as his new boss looks to halt a worrying slide of form this season.
Having finished fifth last season Martinez’s side are languishing in 12th place in the league – winning just two of their last 14 games.
The Spaniard said: “It’s not going to faze him. We need to see where he is physically and his match fitness.
“He’s played a lot of games so far this season, to be involved in 17 games in this half of the season is a good return, and this is the sort of game he will look forward.
“It is the perfect baptism in our club to go into the Merseyside derby is a really interesting start.”
Lennon has represented his country 21 times while scoring 30 goals in a Spurs shirt, having made over 300 appearances for the club.
He was their longest serving player currently still at White Hart Lane before his late move to Everton this winter – spending nine years with Spurs following his move from Leeds back in 2005.
